WHAT is Intense Pulsed Light or IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a kind of high-intensity source of broadband coherent light These properties allow IPL to have wide application for ablative resurfacing therapy, which is based on the theory of selective absorption of human skin tissue and photo thermolysis light sources.
Meanwhile, IPL photo rejuvenation technology is more efficient and offer patients less downtime than conventional therapies for aged and photo damaged skin.

IPL uses special filters that block unwanted wavelengths. The filters can be changed to “cut off” the shorter wavelengths. The appropriate filter will depend on the depth of the intended target

IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with colour (chromophores) in the skin having a wavelength range of 500 nm- at 1200 nm.
The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes a specific result to the target area.
IPL systems are different to lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colours) in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. Most IPL systems use filters to refine the energy output for the treatment of certain areas.
This enhances penetration without using excessive energy levels and enables targetting of specific chromophores (these are skin components that absorb light).
IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (epidermis). The advantage of IPL therapy is its minimal downtime – a patient can often have the procedure done in their lunch break and return to work immediately afterwards.
With IPL machine you can perform treatments from:acne, pigment therapy (dark spots),varicose veins, hair removal, wrinkle treatments, skin photo rejuvenation and skin tighthening.

Hair removal
May be used for hair in any location including underarms, bikini line, face, neck, back, chest and legs

For the treatment of unwanted hair.
Light pulses targeted at the hair follicle causing the hair to fall out and prevent further growth. Generally ineffective for light coloured hair.

Pigment therapy, photo rejuvenation:

The treatment itself works much like a laser, but instead of having just one wavelength of light, the machine produces a spectrum of light made up of a range of wavelengths. By selecting an appropiate filter, the trained skin care professional selects the wavelength range to target the damaged area caused by skin aging and sun exposure.

Some fine lines, superficial wrinkles and texture of the skin may be addressed.

Welcome to a New Year of Kindergarten: A Tour of Important Areas of Our Room

Thursday, August 28, 2014

After a long hiatus from blogging, I am back!  First I want to welcome all the new parents to our blog! Because there will not be much in the way of worksheets coming home to show you what we do each day, this will be the place where you can see the amazing things and the learning that goes on here in Kindergarten! I want to start out by showing you some areas in our room and explaining to you why they are so important for your child's learning experience.

Here is a glance at our environment! I have worked to create a calming environment that provides experiences that encourage the children to learn, no matter where they go in our room! The walls are mostly bare waiting for the kids creations!

Materials are shared in the middle of the tables. Colors are separated to allow for more deliberate choice of colors when drawing, documenting and writing.

Materials for art, science and projects were categorized by my students last year and are displayed where we can grab them when needed!

Here is the library with some friendship art created by past classes. These will be taken down to create room for their own art here and displayed permmenantly in the hallway to preserve some of this rooms history!

The writing area is ready for them to start recording their stories on paper! They will also use writing here in many authentic ways such as letter writing, creating cards, lists, writing books, documentation of what they notice, and so much more!

Our "Look Closer" table for now is filled with some random items to get an idea of where their interests lie and to start conversations. Kids can document what they see, think, wonder and notice. As time goes on, this table may have more specific items relating to an inquiry the kids are involved in, or items brought in by the kids that they want to get a closer look at.

We have a Studio of the Arts Area in our room!  The arts are so important in developing motor skills, language development, decision making, visual learning, inventiveness, and creativity! All of these are important skills needed in the 21st Century! The easil is an area where we explore many different medias that can be use for art such as paint, pastels, watercolor, stamping, weaving, and much more!

This is the clay area. We are starting out with Playdough. I can't wait to see what type of sculptures they will create! For now I laid out some rolling pins to roll the dough and make imprints.  Many kids love using sculptures to document things they have learned during inquiries! It is a great way to develope their finger muscles!

Music is also an art! I set out some items for them to explore sound with and see what they notice and what they can create! I will add paper and clipboards for them to document what they wonder, see, notice and learn!

This is our loose parts area. I set out a few items to get their creative juices flowing! This area helps kids create plans, problem solve and use fine motor skills.  Many math and literacy skills end up happening at this station naturally!

This is an area to explore measurement!

Here is an area to explore patterns.

These are our math shelves with manipulatives and math trays.

These are our Literacy shelves with trays filled with literacy experiences.

This is our Engineering Area. Here they come up with plans, collaborate, problem solve, create, design, test their designs and build. So many 21st Century Skills are learned here!  Block play also encourages children to start making predictions and comparisons. They will also experiment with cause and effect, stability and balance. They will learn about gravity and force and motion!

Also available in the Engineering Area are Legos, K'nex, pattern blocks, rocks and natural blocks that I made from a Cedar tree that fell in my backyard.

Our Homeliving Area is where the kids practice real life situations. Here they will use many math and literacy skills as they create jobs and life situations.  A lot of important social skills are learned here also!  Sharing, taking turns, cooperating, impulse control, and dealling with disappointment. They will problem solve, negotiate, organize and plan. This area will change according to interests, inquiries and projects that will go on in our room!

I am excited to see how our room will change as the students make this room theirs through the year! Next week, I will show you what the first week of kindergarten looks like in our room!

Skin care Machines with Multiple Functions

Skin care Machines with Multiple Functions

I found this article about the multifunction machines and I want to share it with you.

Years ago, skin care professionals would use only their given hands and natural resources, such as a sea sponge or a cotton washcloth to treat their clients' skin. Throughout the years, technology has evolved, changed and greatly enhanced the ways that estheticians do their job.

In order to be competitive, spa professionals need to be on top of the latest trends in the industry. One of the latest trends is to use machines, but with all the confusing information available about equipment options, it’s often hard for estheticians to decide which ones they really need and which they can do without.

To get the most bang for your buck, opt for all-in-one machines that serve multiple purposes and offer features for high-frequency, galvanic, ultrasonic, microdermabration and other spa services.

These multi-purpose machines have a number of advantages over purchasing individual machines, and can save and make you money in the long term.

                               Why multifunction machines?

•When clients walk into a treatment room and see the large multifunction machine, it can give the perception that such an official and high-quality piece of equipment means their esthetician is an ultimate professional with the ability to take care of all of their needs.

•The service will run more fluidly and smoothly when the esthetician is able to perform all services without having to get up and move around the room to prepare for any other procedures.

•It can be a great addition with as many as 11,13 or 17 functions all within an arm’s reach.

•Many estheticians rent a small space and need to have the ability to perform all of their services without the clutter of many single function machines scattered around.

•It’s more than a service; it’s a treatment. One client can come in with sun damage and fine lines and the next can come in with acneic skin and both can be treated with the same machine.
Save more, make more

•An esthetician can save money by purchasing a multifunction machine instead of piecing together various single function machines for more money from different companies.
Machines With Multiple Functions

•If you purchase the right multifunction machine from the right company, you can get one with individual replaceable parts. For example, if your high-frequency, galvanic or petite cabinet stops working, you can simply detach and replace with a new one.

•With as many as 17 functions in one machine, this can increase the amount of services an esthetician can perform, the number of clients that can be seen and the amount of money made.

Multifunction machines can include the following functions:

High-frequency. Using a Tesla pulse current, does not produce chemical changes. Rather it can supply heat that has an antiseptic affect for the skin. This current stimulates circulation, oxygenates the skin and increases cell metabolism. It is an excellent germicidal, which is especially important when treating acne.

Galvanic. The two primary features of the galvanic current are to facilitate deep-pore cleansing and to penetrate product into the skin. The use of positive or negative currents, with the client holding the opposite probe at the same time, facilitates iontophoresis or anaphoresis.

Magnifying lamp. This loupe aids the esthetician by magnifying the skin. With the use of a fluorescent light, finer details of the skin can be seen.

Steamer. Most steamers come with an ozone switch. Steam helps to soften sebum and other debris on the skin while stimulating circulation. When using the ozone switch, there is an antiseptic effect that benefits acne and combination skin.

Spray/vacuum The esthetician can use toners or other formulas in this function, offering a gentle application of the product to the skin. This misting of the skin is very soothing and calming. The vacuum is used to suction dirt and impurities from the skin, and it simultaneously works to reduce the appearance of creases and fine lines. It also works to reduce keloids.

Rotary brush. An excellent cleansing accessory, the rotary brush lightly exfoliates the skin and loosens other debris. It stimulates circulation and is soft enough to thoroughly cleanse highly sensitive skin.

Wood’s lamp. This filtered black light must be used in complete darkness. It is a very effective tool for a detailed analysis of the skin.

Ultrasonic. Ultrasonic wave produces energy. When acting on the body, it stimulates the body’s cells, producing a tiny massage that expands the space in which the cells exist. It causes the movement of cytoplasm, the rotation of mitochondria, the vibration of cell nucleus, and stimulates and expands the cell membrane. Therefore, it can improve local blood and lymph circulation, increase the penetration of serums to the cells, and improve the metabolism and regeneration of body cells. Always use water or a water-based product with this machine.

Sterilize Box for tools.

Ultrasonic scrubber. Removes all the impurities, dirty and dead cell over the skin, cleans the pores with a vibrating waves of the spatula

Hot towel cabbie. These cabinets provide hot, wet towels to be used during facials.

Frekator or spot remover. Is a high-frequency pointed needlelike instrument used to remove skin tags and small moles.

Microcurrent. Is excellent for lifting the skin.

Hot & Cold hammer. Used to open or close pores, refresh skin, after o before treatments

Microdermabration. Provides a non-surgical skin refinish procedure, by using diamond peeling heads to abrade or rub off the top skin layer, then vacuuming out the particles along with any dirt and dead skin. This procedure removes skin debris, imperfections, blemishes, wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation on the skin

Most estheticians become estheticians because they love creating beauty by helping people through their services. With a multifunction machine, an esthetician can save money and time, help more people every day, and grow their business by offering more services.

Toning your muscles with Passive Excersice (EMS)

Toning your muscles with Passive Excercise (EMS)

Tone your muscles without going to the gym.

The Electrotherapy, also known as passive exercise, electrical stimulation or russian waves is an excellent method that uses electrical stimulation of different muscle groups to restructure, shape, elasticity and tone to the muscles by the action of isometric contractions.
Electrical stimulation units use an electrical current called russian waves to simulate the same electrical impulses that are activated during normal exercise.
Russian waves will work your muscles for you, 30 minutes in this aesthetic equipment is equivalent to 1200 sit-ups! Just lay back and relax through your workout.
By passively activating the muscle, the body responds in much the same way as during normal exercise. By placing a pair of electrodes on the target muscle or muscle group, the unit can send electrical impulses through the skin to underlying nerves, stimulating the contraction and relaxation of the muscle in a rhythm similar to daily exercise.
The reason for its effectiveness is that it acts simultaneously at the level of the muscular system, circulatory system, lymphatic and nervous action following a process that goes from the internal tissues of the body to the outermost being applicable in multiple areas of the body as buttocks, hips, abdomen, back, legs and arms.

In muscle induces a special form of isometric work which strengthens the action to reaffirm and boost metabolism, increase energy, burn calories and expanded editing and muscle tone. It also promotes the mobilization of fat deposits and degradation of stored fat, causing reduced body contour.
In the circulatory system favors the absorption and mobilization of fluids that accumulate operation greatly increasing lymphatic drainage, resulting in a direct action on cellulite and edema. This procedure has no known undesirable side effects.
It is advisable to carry out a minimum of 2 sessions of at least 30 minutes per week and no less than 12-16 sessions according to each particular case, and its effect is enhanced when combined with other therapies reducing. Its effects begin to look past the first month of treatment and progressively

Electrical Stimulation can be used for two primary functions; strength training and muscle tone or pain control.

Electrical Muscle Stimulators (EMS) are designed to provide superior muscle training, toning, and recovery. Athletes who incorporate EMS into their training regime find that they have an advantage over the competition.

This treatment  remove flaccidity and give tone to muscles.

The Russian-wave treatment aims to stimulate muscles by external means.

Re-cap: This treatment is performed by electro-stimulation of the neuro muscular nerve terminals causing muscles to contract rhythmically, and so we provide them strength and muscle development in order to gain muscle tone volume.

This contraction not only promotes circulation in the privacy of tissues and consumption of calories, but tonifies and strengthens muscles without going to the gym.

It is a completely non-invasive and virtually painless treatment alternative.

This treatment is also effective in reducing the appearance of cellulite. The results are natural; the feel resembles the motions made during exercises.
